Rimac Concept One

Meet the croatian electric supercar

The Rimac Concept One (also styled Concept_One) is a two-seat high-performance electric sports car designed and manufactured by Rimac Automobili. With a total output of 1,088 hp, an acceleration from 0–100 km/h (0–60 mph) in 2.8 seconds, and a price of US$980,000. Concept One has been described as the world's first electric supercar becoming the world's fastest accelerating electric automobile as of 2013 to be only caught up with in 2015 by the Rimac Concept S. Between January 2013 and October 2014, all eight cars of its limited production run have been sold. To advertise both Rimac Automobili and Formula E, the Concept One will be used as the official zero-emission race director's car during Formula E events.

Rimac Automobili, an automobile manufacturing company established in 2009 in Zagreb, Croatia, grew out of its founder Mate Rimac's garage hobby. The company's primary objective was to build an electric supercar starting, as Rimac put it, "with a blank sheet of paper". Since electric systems for high-performance electric cars were not available on the market, the company developed the necessary parts and patented 24 innovations. When Rimac's 1984 BMW E30 blew its internal combustion engine during one of its races, he made it the company's first test mule, fitting it with a 600 hp electric powertrain.[9] This car, called the "Green Monster", set five Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA)-sanctioned acceleration records in April 2011. This attracted the attention of the media and potential investors. He also created several more E30 electric model to sell, and after some success, went on to create his own car.

The Concept One was set to cost US$980,000 once the serial production started in 2013. A limited set of 88 units was to be offered. The Concept One had been tested and still needed some adjustments, and a new body was to be developed for production. The car was introduced on the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show, and also shown at the 2012 Paris Concours d'Elegance, where it received positive results. The first car was delivered to an unnamed Spanish customer in January 2013.[12] As of October 2014, eight cars have been manufactured and sold which was the entire production. In early 2015 the Toroidion 1 MW concept took the title of world's most powerful all-electric supercar away from the Rimac Concept One.

Rimac participated at the June 2015 Pikes Peak race with a 1 MW highly customised version called the E-Runner Concept_One. The vehicle took second place overall. The driver was the multiple Pikes Peak winner Nobuhiro Tajima. The car was constantly evolving. then the final version was presented at the March 2016 Geneva Motor Show.

Rimac All Wheel Torque Vectoring Rimac

All Wheel Torque Vectoring is a unique system that creates a new driving experience by utilising the advantages of independent wheel drive of the Concept_One’s four-motor powertrain system. The system provides unseen flexibility and grip by controlling each wheel individually one hundred times per second. Drivers can choose between various modes and settings to perfectly match their preferences, skills and the given situation. Powertrain Architecture Electric motors offer numerous advantages compared to combustion engines.

The Concept_One was designed from the ground-up to utilise those advantages and create a whole new breed – the supercar of the 21st century. Rimac Automobili’s unique powertrain is divided into four sub-systems. Each system consists of a separate electric powertrain with an independent inverter, motor and gearbox for each wheel of the car. This engineering masterpiece enables us to control each wheel independently, hundreds of times each second, in both directions, delivering an unforgettable driving experience.

 Motors & Gearboxes

Rimac has developed the world’s highest power density motor system to power each of the Concept_One’s four wheels individually. Instant response, more than 90% efficiency, full torque at zero speed, wide power-band and limitless lifetime are some of the advantages around which the Concept_One was designed from the ground-up. Each of the four Concept_One’s motors is coupled to a proprietary gearbox system. While the front motors feature single-speed gearboxes, the rear motors carry something truly unique – a two-speed double-clutch gearbox on each side.

The cockpit

Following the design language of the exterior, the interior incorporates the Rimac Automobili DNA. Hugging the body in bespoke leather trim, the seats position the driver low and close to the centre of gravity of the car, emphasizing the chassis information that goes through the drivers lower back and into his arms.
